What's on 2013-2014: Season Fifteen
Welcome to our 2013-2014 season. We think it will be another season of great films that will keep you entertained, moved, perhaps inspired, but certainly not bored.
We hope you will join HFS for the season but remember that you don't need to be a member to come along. So, if you want to bring a friend, or spread the word, everyone is welcome to come and pay on the night.
All of our monthly screenings will be at the Birks Cinema, Aberfeldy.
The precise dates and timings of our screenings for the 2013-14 season will be advertised nearer the time as part of the Birks programme.

Our monthly film evenings in future will all be held at The Birks Cinema in the Square in Aberfeldy, but some of the screenings for our film festival 15-17 November 2013 will take place at Dewars World of Whisky, Aberfeldy.
SEPTEMBER 2013: OSAMA
In a terrifying masquerade, a young Afghan girl defies the Taliban by dressing as a boy to go out and support her family. The situation becomes critical when boys are recruited to military training. Inspired by a true story, the film gives a chilling insight into life under the Taliban rule

OCTOBER 2013: Untouchable
Culture-clash comedy and real life drama blend in this irreverent take on disability. The film charts the relationship between wealthy Phillipe, wheelchair-bound after a paragliding accident, and his young ex-convict immigrant carer. Excellent performances have earned this film numerous awards.

NOVEMBER 2013: Samsara
The ever-turning wheel of life is the inspiration for this unparalleled sensory experience. The links between humanity and nature are illuminated by beautifully shot, enigmatic images from five years of globetrotting, with original music from Michael Stearnes, Lisa Gerrard and others.

DECEMBER 2013: Café de Flore
This ambitious family drama explores the anguish of love in two parallel narratives - thematically and musically linked - involving a single mother caring for a son with Down’s syndrome in 1960’s Paris and a DJ in present-day Montreal struggling with the demands of daughters, ex-wife and new love.

JANUARY 2014: Nostalgia for the Light
In the pure air of the Chilean Atacama desert, while astronomers examine the distant galaxies, women still search for the remains of relatives ‘disappeared’ decades ago during Pinochet’s dictatorship. A stunning and heart-rending documentary that’s both political and personal.

FEBRUARY 2014: The Hunt
After a bitter divorce and the loss of his job, a school teacher is slowly rebuilding his life when a child’s casual remark throws his small community into collective hysteria and he becomes the victim of a witch-hunt. Best Actor Award Cannes 2012.

MARCH 2014: Once Upon a Time in Anatolia
A group of men - a policeman, a prosecutor, a doctor, a murderer and men with shovels - search the Anatolian plain for a corpse. As the night progresses, they spar, banter and reflect on their own lives and mortality, while a meal served by a beautiful girl stirs deep emotions.

APRIL 2014: A Cat in Paris

MAY 2014: Beasts of the Southern Wild
Six-year-old Hushpuppy confronts floods, ancient Aurochs and the ill health of her irascible father as catastrophe threatens her eccentric community in Gulf Coast Louisiana. Stark realism, surrealism and dream intermingle in this multi award nominated fantasy drama.
