Films for All in Highland Perthshire

Welcome to the 2007/2008 season of Heartland Film Society's screenings. Films are shown on the first Thursday and Friday of each month, between September and June, in the Locus Centre situated in The Square, Aberfeldy (in the same building as the Tourist Information Centre).

Each season we aim to create a programme that appeals to as wide an audience as possible. There are old films, new films, foreign films and always something a little thought provoking. Follow the link on the left hand side to see details of this season’s offerings.

Heartland Film Society (HFS) is now in its sixth season. It was formed to enable the showing of films on a big screen in an informal and friendly atmosphere. In 2004, HFS won the British Federation of Film Societies Best New Film Society award. The judges made special mention of the novel and unique method (the bean-o-meter) that HFS uses to evaluate the success of each film shown. Not only that but it received commendation for the programme notes issued for each screening.

As well as showing films, HFS tries to arrange at least one special event in each season. During 2006-07, we had two such events. In March, we had an 'Evening of Scottish Shorts' when we showed a selection of short films made by new Scottish talent. On that occasion we were lucky to have Robbie Allen from Scottish Screen who gave us an interesting and amusing introduction to the making of short films. In April, we were more ambitious and organised a screening in Aberfeldy Town Hall of Al Gore's film 'An Inconvenient Truth'. As the Scottish elections were about to happen in May, we invited representatives of all the major parties to come along and present their party's approach to climate change.  Over one hundred people came along to enjoy the discussion.

HFS is run as a self-funding venture - fees cover only the cost of putting on films and the hire of the Locus Centre.  Why not join us and become a member.  You don't have to join in advance - just come along to any of the performances.
