Young Indies 2019 Short Film Competition and Workshops

​Registration is closed for the 2019 competition and workshops

​Heartland Film Society is pleased to announce the 2019 Young Indies film competition and
invites young people to create and submit their own short film.

• Free film-making workshops on 25th August 2019 for 7 - 18 year olds

• Into Film Film Festival for schools

​Who can enter the short film competition?

The film competition is open to any individual or group based in Highland Perthshire and aged
from 5 to 18 years old. There are two categories:

• ​Junior: films created by children of primary school age (5-11 yrs) and
• Senior: films made by youngsters of secondary school age (11–18 yrs)

​6 films will be short-listed from each category. These films will be shown at the Birks Cinema
during the Aberfeldy Film Festival and prizes awarded to the winners. There will also be a special judges prize for the best film overall.

​What kind of film?

• There's no restriction on subject or style, so let your imagination run wild.
• Entries must be no more than 10 minutes long.

​Young Indies 2019 Dates

• 25th August:         Free film making workshop for Seniors (11 - 18 year olds)

                                           and animation film making for Juniors (7 - 11 year olds)

• 27th September:  Short film registration deadline
• 25th October:       Short films submission deadline
• 11th November:    Junior films screening at the Birks Cinema - free event for schools
• Tbc November:    Senior films screening at the Birks Cinema - free event for schools
• 17th November:   Young Indies Short Film Competition at the Birks Cinema
• Tbc November:    Meet the Young Film Maker events - dates to confirm

 

• A fee of £5.00 is payable on registration for the film competition
• A parent/guardian consent form is required for each child

Free workshops for young film makers

The workshops offer aspiring young film makers the chance to work with a professional film maker and to learn about the whole process
of producing a film - from creating a story and characters, camera shots and storyboard, through to filming and editing. 

While some practical help from adults is acceptable, any films entered in the film competition must be conceived, written, directed and produced
by the youngsters themselves.  Any films completed during the film making workshops may be entered in the Young Indies film competition.
